Our Chapels:
St Amand & St John the Baptist, East
Hendred
Chapel of the Blessed Virgin, Milton

The Chapel of St Amand and St John the Baptist
Hendred House, High Street, East Hendred
The Chapel of St Amand and St John the Baptist,
located at Hendred House, hosts Friday morning Mass
at 8.30am and Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament on
Fridays between 3pm and 4pm.
The Chapel of St.Amand and St. John the Baptist
in Hendred House was built or at least permission
was given for it to be built in 1256 by Pope
Alexander IV. After the Dissolution of the Chantries
in 1547, the chapel itself was not used for mass
until it was restored by George Eyston in 1687 but
in December 1688 it was ransacked by some soldiers
from William of Orange's army on their way from
Hungerford to Oxford. The Chapel was re-opened in
1845 and remained the main Catholic mission until
St.Mary's Church in East Hendred was opened in 1865.
The chapel remains in use up to the present day
as a chapel for the Eyston family and is often used
by the parish, notably for Friday mass, a weekly
adoration of the Blessed Sacrament and the Watching
before the Altar of Repose on Maundy Thursday
evening.
