Prayer Groups
The Prayer life of the Parish is a central part
of our ongoing faith development and spiritual
reflection. Please see below an overview of the wide
range of active Prayer Groups operating within Our
Lady and St Edmund of Abingdon.
Charismatic Prayer Group
This group meets on the 2nd and 4th Wednesday of the
month at 8pm in the Church for an informal time of
praise and worship, including prayer, scripture and
healing ministry.

The group is open to all ages –
please call Mike & Maria Oliver or Paul & Karen
Gibbons via the Parish Office.

some of our activities and background to 'renewal'
Flower of Carmel Prayer Group
The Flower of Carmel Prayer Group meets every
Monday for 45 minutes at 2 Radley Road (opposite the
Presbytery) at 10.30am. The meeting consists of an
opening hymn, prayers, reading the forthcoming
Sunday Gospel, followed by silent prayer for 25
minutes, finishing with petitions, the Lord’s
Prayer, and a hymn to Our Lady.
Coffee and biscuits for those who want to stay
and chat afterwards is available. We have no
‘membership’ as this is simply an opportunity for
prayer and meditation in the spirit of Carmel.
Numbers vary from 10 to 16, and regulars,
occasionals and ‘one-off’s are all warmly welcomed.

on the 2nd and 4th Tuesday evenings of the month.

The Rosary is recited before Mass on Tuesday and
Friday evenings and at 6.15pm on Sundays. For more
information please contact Rose Andrews via the
Parish Office on 01235 559754.
Thursday Scripture Discussion Group
The Group meets in the Parish Centre every Thursday
morning at 10am. The one hour meeting is basically a
relaxed discussion and sharing of the forthcoming
Sunday Gospel, and the Old Testament reading
accompanying it. The aim is to understand the
background of the Gospel passage, its meaning and
context in its time and in our day and the
implication for our lives now. Currently there are 8
'members' but any newcomer is warmly welcomed, just
drop in one Thursday and try it out!
For more information contact Mike Moreton-Smith
via the Parish Office.
CIA, formally inaugurated in 1990, is an
association of 14 Congregations, each a community in
its own right, with its own style and character.
Through working together more can be achieved and
joint activities include sponsorship of a Training
Scheme, a school’s Youth Worker, a young people's
Drop-In Centre, and "Welcome to Abingdon" scheme.
CIA is currently working at practical responses to
it’s recently carried out, extensive survey of
Abingdon. CIA has a regular Assembly, Executive
Committee meetings and a number of working groups.
For more information contact Father Tom Taaffe or
Katherine Powley via the Parish Office on 01235

CiA Church Twinning Group
This twinning group was formed to try to give a
spiritual dimension to the town twinning which is so
successful in Abingdon and the Vale, to share our
faith with our hosts and visitors, and also to
enable us to learn from one another. Because most of
the churches in our twin towns are Catholic, the
participation of St. Edmund's in the twinning is
seen as especially important. If you would like to
know more, please get in touch.
For more information contact Antonia Conlon via
the Parish Office on 01235 559754.
